Information Landscape Workshops | Historical Sources, Metadata, and the Art of Not Finding What You're Looking For

Every search, whether it’s Google, a library database, or a museum’s online collection, is built on (mostly) human decisions about what to include/exclude and how to describe materials. This workshop goes behind the scenes of the University of Idaho’s digital archival collections to show that process in action: how historical materials are selected, described, and indexed for search. You’ll see how those decisions affect the success or failure of your searches, and how to develop search strategies to find relevant historical materials.
